HYI Youth College Kick-off 2012Hello Parents,
The Hispanic College Fund is offering the Youth College kick-off this summer. The Greater Washington HYI Kickoff, will be held at Marymount University from August 2 – 5 (Thursday – Sunday). This program will teach your student everything they need to know about applying for college, and it will motivate them to graduate from high school and further their education. During the program students will participate in talent competitions, art contests, and social activities. Deadline to apply is April 30th. All students are welcome to apply regardless of ethnicity. The requirements to apply for this program are as follows: * Have a 2.5 GPA or higher * Be a 9th or 10th grade student * Write an essay * Provide your own transportation to Marymount University in Arlington, VA To apply for this program please visit http://www.hispanicfund.org/programs/hyi/regions/greater-washington and fill out the on-line application. The cost for this program that includes overnight stay at Marymount Univeristy and includes all meals is only $10. If you would like to apply for a fee waiver please see Ms. Mendoza in Guidance. My name is Sherry Mendoza and I am your School Parent Liaison. I am extremely honored to officially join the staff of For those who are unfamiliar with the School Parent Liaison position, allow me to give you a brief overview of my job. I am here to serve you with all of the following: · Working together to help your student succeed · Navigating the school system · Understanding school policies and procedures · Finding resources for you and your student · Mediating concerns between parents and the school system · Explaining and giving you access to Parent Portal to check your student grades, attendance, etc. · Providing you with informative workshops · Meeting with you to inform you of possible options for your student's academic success such as graduation requirements, IB program, how to get to college, etc. I understand that your time is filled with demands, and that it is difficult to balance the demands of home and work. However, I urge you to dedicate some time to meet with me to discuss the way you can help your child to succeed at Gar-Field Senior High School the School of Champions.
